Porsche hosts virtual auction in aid of Place2Be

On your marks, get set, bid: Porsche hosts virtual auction in aid of Place2Be

08/4/2021

A selection of exclusive one of a kind experiences and signed memorabilia is available to bid for via a virtual charity auction organised by Porsche Cars GB in support of children’s mental health charity Place2Be.

Running online from Monday 12 April until Sunday 18 April, the auction features more than 20 lots. These include a unique driving experience with Porsche brand ambassador Mark Webber at the Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone, hospitality at Ascot racecourse, tickets to a Porsche Carrera Cup GB race, and autographed Porsche Driver’s Selection items signed by Porsche Le Mans winners.

Porsche Cars GB has teamed up with Place2Be, the leading provider of in-school mental health services in the UK, to help support the charity’s mission to improve the mental wellbeing and prospects of children, their families and communities. In this way, the two organisations aim to accelerate awareness of this fundamental social welfare and healthcare topic; the auction coincides with National Stress Awareness Month, and the money raised in the auction will help support the work of Place2Be across the country.

The auction lots will start at a minimum reserve price, with items to suit a wide range of budgets. For example, the driving experience with Mark Webber, which not only includes a drive of the Porsche 911 GT3 at the Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone, but the unique opportunity to name the 911 GT3 (part of the Porsche fleet) after themselves or a loved one in what will be a truly memorable day.

An ultimate trip to the Goodwood Festival of Speed experience is also on offer, including a passenger ride up the famous Goodwood Hill.

A day at the races featuring a different kind of horsepower is promised by a hospitality package at Royal Ascot, including a behind the scenes tour and visit to the Parade Ring prior to one of the races.

An overnight stay at a luxury hotel has been donated by Pride of Britain Hotels; also included is a personal chauffeur to and from the chosen destination, courtesy of Parkers European.

For those who are more Motorsport-inclined, there are hospitality and paddock tour packages offered for a Porsche Visit Cayman Islands Sprint Challenge race weekend, and a Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship weekend.

Porsche merchandise signed by current Porsche factory race drivers André Lotterer and Neel Jani is certain to draw interest, alongside a selection of items autographed by 2015 Le Mans winner Nick Tandy and 1970 winner Richard Attwood.

Further lots include the opportunity to treat your car to a full Gtechniq detailing valet service from the Great British Valeting Company, or an Elite Cycling or Elite Motorsport package from the Human Performance Facility at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone. If that sounds too energetic, you bid for up to eight people to share in a private tasting menu at Silverstone.

The auction takes place during National Stress Awareness Month, and Porsche is helping Place2Be highlight the impact that stress can have on young people’s lives. Place2Be estimates that 85% of the young people it has supported through the first lockdown have been negatively affected by the pandemic.

“The pandemic has exacerbated existing mental health issues for young people like stress, anxiety and depression. It has heightened concerns for their education and future prospects as well as causing real loneliness. It is vital that we get ahead of the spiralling mental health crisis that we are seeing in classrooms around the UK,” said Josie Hough, Corporate Partnerships Officer, Place2Be.

“The support of Porsche comes at a time when our services are needed more than ever before to address the mental health impact that the pandemic has had on children and young people in the UK.”

The UK is the fourth largest market for Porsche in the world, and in every country it serves, the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer considers it important to play a role in local society. The charity auction is the first public fundraising activity hosted by Porsche Cars GB for Place2Be.
